POSITION SUMMARY

Responsibilities include support, trouble-shooting hardware, software and network related problems in a 24/7 environment.  Acts as a centralized communication and coordination point for global efforts to maintain and respond as necessary to production events.  Please note the shift for this position:  Thursday & Friday:  11p - 8a and Saturday & Sunday 8p - 8a.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Responsible for monitoring customer applications and operational architecture through a Network Operating Center (NOC) environment to ensure Service Level Agreements are met.
• Available and adaptable to work various shifts in a 24x7x365 operation and be on-call for emergency response.
• Participate in the planning, acquisition, and implementation of applications, monitoring tools and physical equipment including servers, network hardware, infrastructure and environmentals.
• Act as primary escalation point for Network Operations issues arising from within, and outside, the company to coordinate and act as a communication bridge during issues.
• Provide escalation status notification throughout the enterprise on service impacting events.
• Make decisions and take actions to prevent network interruptions and service degradation.
• Comprehensive understanding of networking (LAN, WAN), server administration, SAN and blade technology, enterprise applications such as Exchange, SQL 2000, Server 2003, and trouble ticketing systems.
• Monitor firm wide backups, created status reports and alert on issues.
• Routinely exercise self sufficient analytical skills, carry out plans with little supervision and respond positively in high pressure situation
• Ability to manage all data center environmentals including operational support systems such as AC, electric, UPS, fiber and UTP cabling requiring some liaison with the appropriate vendor.
• Assist in system related maintenance and environmental changes as requested, and provide assistance in testing new or upgraded applications.
• Remain current on marketplace trends and Reed Smith application developments in order to provide on-time service to users.
• Track and update events in the trouble ticketing system in a clear and efficient manner.
• May volunteer or be selected to serve on special committees, work groups, project teams, or escalation teams related to various Firmwide IT initiatives.  Initiatives may be specific one-time events (e.g., research, testing, rollouts, upgrades, installations) or ongoing activities.

REQUIREMENTS

Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Sciences or equivalent work experience.  Additional training/certification in relevant area of study strongly preferred.

Experience:
Two years experience providing support to users and IT operations required.  Experience in a law firm or other service environment a plus.

Skills:
Strong PC, Windows, and applications knowledge.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work effectively with all organizational levels.  Able to work on multiple projects/priorities in a deadline-driven environment.  Must be able to remain calm in pressure situations and adapt quickly to change.  Demonstrated ability to maintain a customer-service focus and attitude at all times.  Able and willing to travel occasionally via car, train, and airplane.  Excellent telephone etiquette and command of the English language.  Capable of working individually and as part of a team, and ability to take the lead on projects and problems when requested or as appropriate.

Equipment to be Used:
Personal computer and other office equipment such as telephone, typewriter, calculator, fax machine, duplicating machine and so on.

Typical Physical Demands:
Requires sitting, standing, bending, stooping, and reaching.  Heavy - Lifting 75 pounds maximum and carrying of up to 50 pounds.  Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computer, printer, copier, telephone and other office equipment.  Requires normal range of hearing and vision.

Must be able to deal with stress associated with a fast paced work environment, including handling multiple tasks on a daily basis.  Must be able to make judgment decisions and handle daily, routine responsibilities.  Must be able to adapt to changing work situations and grasp and apply new ideas.  Must be able to communicate with various personalities at all levels of management and staff.

Working Conditions:
Work in a typical office setting.  Expected to work overtime to meet deadlines.  Travel to other offices on an as needed basis.

Database Applications Manager – LA – New Orleans

Purpose:
 
This position is responsible for definition of customer requirements, development of solutions and application administration. The position provides second level Helpdesk support for all software applications used by the firm and has overall responsibility for server based application installation, support, administration, maintenance and development.

Requirements

Responsibilities
• Support all databases including SQL Server 2000 and 2005
• Database support for commercial 3rd party systems
• Code, test, and implement stored procedures to support application requirements.
• Support bulk data migration tasks.
• Improve / maintain database/index  performance and analyze performance anomalies.
• Troubleshoot database issues, identify root causes, and implement optimal solutions.
• Maintenance and troubleshooting of SQL server backups
• Support database/web integration when needed

Qualifications:
5 Years of progressive experience with SQL 2000/2005 system platforms (MCDBA a plus), IIS and Internet portals.
Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to relate well to all levels of customers.
Excellent team-building and collaborative skills.
Ability to lead and supervise application development projects and teams.
Strong documentation skills.
Proven problem solving ability.
Legal experience a plus.
