POSITION TITLE: SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR
* While generally this is a 40 hour per week position, IT staff will be expected to work whatever hours necessary to complete assigned responsibilities and scheduled tasks, accomplish assigned project tasks in accordance with the parameters established in the governing project plan, and restore impaired or down systems to fully operational status. As a non-exempt employee, you will be entitled to overtime (i.e., time and a half after 40 hours).
Summary:
The System Administrator will assist in the administration, maintenance, and day-to-day operation of our Microsoft Windows environment. This position will work in collaboration with the Firm’s System and Networking Engineer group and the Helpdesk staff members in the troubleshooting, diagnosis, and resolution of incidents, and recommends new technology and operational changes in support of business needs. Must also be available after-hours and on weekends to perform scheduled maintenance, support and emergency systems restoration.
Essential Job Functions:
• Performs system and network administration including managing file systems, user accounts, printers and workstations.
• Installs, operates, and maintains server hardware, operating systems and other essential services and sub-systems.
• Under supervision, performs system modifications, upgrades, and software updates as directed.
• Maintain the mobile device system (BlackBerry and iPhones).
• Monitors servers and services according to scheduled maintenance procedures. Performs scheduled diagnostics and maintenance.
• Creates, modifies and deletes user accounts in accordance with established service level agreements.
• Performs security and backup administration. Performs file restorations from backup as needed.
• Performs level 3 user supports when triaged by Level 2 Help Desk indicates that a user problem is caused by a problem with the user account, network administration, or printer.
• On a rotating basis, carries the after-hours pager to respond to user problems occurring either before or after Help Desk support hours.
• Notifies a Systems Engineer in the event of an outage, virus, or major system failure that could affect users.
• When requested, attends IT meetings and scheduled teleconferences. Attends the annual IT Summit.
• Communicates on an as needed basis with Chicago attorneys and staff regarding technical issues and upcoming projects.
• Other duties and projects as assigned.
Educational and Experience Requirements:
Associates degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, or related field, is strongly preferred. A minimum of two years experience in a medium to large Microsoft Computing Environment is required.
• Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA) certification preferred.
• Ability to recognize and take into account impact of problems and decisions on the local office.
• Good working knowledge of current technologies.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong customer service skills.
Physical Requirements:
Position could involve extended computer work, desk visits to users on all floors, moving equipment and boxes of up to 25 pounds each.
