The Brussels office of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP seeks a Practice Support Coordinator to join the Brussels Practice Support Team. The Practice Support Coordinator will work under the direction of the Senior Practice Support Coordinator and in conjunction with firm staff attorneys and associates to provide support for the office at large in case management and litigation support. Duties include providing user support on litigation support software and hardware; preparing production copies of data on selected media and provides instruction to recipient on how to view data; tracking media and data for litigation matters; assisting in training attorneys and paralegals on document databases; and providing progress reports to designated Senior Staff Attorney regarding various litigation technology projects.

Successful candidates will have knowledge of the application and management of practice support technology platforms and databases including Concordance, IPRO, and third-party databases used by the Firm such as Kroll and Attenex; solid command of Microsoft applications; excellent command of English language; demonstrated interest in litigation technology; the ability to work on own initiative and in a team based environment; strong administrative skills e.g. accuracy, attention to detail, efficiency; excellent analytical skills; a professional ethic and manner; and the ability to work under pressure and to adhere to deadlines. Experience with JFS Litigator's Notebook, proficiency in a second European language a plus. Law firm information technology and/or paralegal background with experience in EU case management and litigation also a plus. Summary:  This position is responsible for all activities related to the architecture, engineering, administration, support, and back up of computer, network, and telephony systems.  This includes all new and existing servers, infrastructure hardware, software, and communication links.  Manage resources and workloads to insure operational stability, infrastructure renewal, improvements, and maximum availability.  Establishes future directions and plans to accommodate growth and business continuity.

Responsibilities
• Manage projects and resources for installation of in-house and remote hardware and software across the firm's computer rooms and infrastructure with exceptional quality control.
• Develop project plans, establish and meet target dates and budget.  Involve team in the process.
• Perform administrative duties (coaching, performance planning and evaluations, training, corrective actions, etc.) associated with leading a team of information systems professionals.
• Design and implement short and long-term strategic and tactical plans to insure server and infrastructure capacities meet existing and future requirements.
• Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated technical plans and documentation for infrastructure resource architecture, engineering, administration, and support.
• Develop and deploy methodologies and tools for testing network and system performance, providing statistics and reports.  Use metrics analysis for the purpose of trending, forecasting, and managing the technical environment.
• Insure systems (i.e., servers, network components and appliances, services, etc.) are maintained and secured utilizing industry best practices for optimal performance.  Manage and insure effectiveness of security solutions including firewalls, patches, antivirus solutions, and intrusion detection systems.  Effectively use third party audits to insure compliance.
• Conduct research and make recommendations on server and infrastructure products, services, protocols, and standards in support of project and development efforts.  Keep up with industry trends to insure that the firm is keeping pace.
• Aid in the development, refinement, and adherence to change, incident, and problem management processes.
• Determine outsourcing/consultant/temporary work requirements and work with vendor(s) in meeting the firm's needs in the most cost-effective manner.  Manage vendor, outsourcer, and contractor relationships.
• Develop and maintain the Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity Plan and its supporting Communication Plan, and insure appropriate capabilities are in place and operational.  Conduct regular tests.
• Identify innovative solutions for the telecommunications and mobile environment, and potential reduction in the overall total cost of ownership.
• Cultivate and maintain internal customer relationships, understanding firm business requirements to insure the delivery of value and strategic advantage, and enhance firm business through effective use of technology.
• Insure asset management of server and infrastructure component inventory.
• Insure operational excellence through structured, state-of-the-art service, service level agreements, and service delivery by highly skilled staff.  Define and track service level goals.
• Define and implement processes and tools to manage computer operations effectively and deliver high availability to meet service level requirements.  Document and communicate policy and/or procedural changes/updates as appropriate.  Provide means to monitor and track non-compliance to systems policies.
• Provide timely and informative communication of system infrastructure upgrade/maintenance plans as well as emergency or unplanned outage situations.  Be responsive and clear to inquiries from attorneys and/or staff.
• Participate in the IT budget process and other special projects and/or support as required.
• Hold regular team meetings and one-on-ones.  Prepare regular status reports on team activities.  Also prepare written documentation, proposals, and/or recommendations.  Make presentations as needed.
• Travel, as necessary.

Qualifications
• BA or BS degree required, MS or MBA preferred.
• 8+ years of strong, proven leadership skills as a Network Manager or Supervisor, leading multiple projects (new technology, conversions, major upgrades) and multi-function teams, required.
• Direct supervisory experience of teams from 10 - 15 people in size required.  Strong team building skills required.
• 8+ years experience managing and configuring enterprise-wide LANs, WANs, VPNs, servers, telecommunications, etc., required.
• Strategic/tactical thinking skills required; able to gather requirements and translate strategic goals into tactical objectives.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with all levels of a professional services organization are required.  Ability to explain technical concepts to a non-technical audience required.  Experience working with customers possessing a wide range of technical expertise is required.
• Must be professional, organized, and flexible; able to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills required.  Ability to handle stressful situations in a calm, composed manner is required.  Ability to quickly assess and assimilate a situation, then adjust approach to fit, is required.
• Strong systems analysis and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and quality control are required.  Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high pressure environment and make sound decisions in emergency situations required.  Exceptional follow-up and follow-through skills required.  Demonstrated ability to multitask and practice good judgment.
• Must be a team player and willing to share information with others.  Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly and independently required.
• Ability to work independently, with minimum supervision, required.
• Previous experience in a law firm or professional services organization, supporting a multi-office environment, preferred.
