Network Administrator/Engineer – NY – New York

Bracewell provides guidance on business law, finance, litigation, government relations and regulatory policy. We serve major financial institutions, Fortune 500 companies, governmental entities and individuals concentrated in the energy and financial services sectors worldwide.
 
We are seeking an experienced Network Administrator / Engineer to be based in our New York office, who will also provide network and user support for our Northeast and other offices.  Candidates should have at least five years' experience supporting Windows-based servers, systems, and desktops as well as an extensive understanding of networking infrastructure and remote access technologies.
 
College degree and previous management experience is preferred.  One or more certifications in the following are desired but not required based upon previous experience: Microsoft (MCSA/MCSE), Citrix (CCA/CCEA), VMWare (VCP), Cisco (CCNA/CCNP), HP (ASE)
 
Responsibilities include:
 
NETWORK ADMINISTRATION:
• Manage and ensure optimal operation of 'assigned' network hardware, servers, and / or applications.  Assignment will depend on candidates experience and skills;
• Install, upgrade, and troubleshoot network hardware and software;
• Administer user accounts, permissions, and access rights;
• Configure desktops, laptops, and printers for new and existing users per established protocols;
• Respond to user questions and requests for assistance, including remote and after-hours assistance, as needed;
• Provide general support to the IT Department on Firm-wide issues, including rollouts and user support;
• Coordinate and perform server backups and recovery, patch deployment, configuration and monitoring;
 
USER SUPPORT:
• Resolve problems through troubleshooting; researching and testing different techniques and/or developing new methods;
• Provide backup coverage of Help Desk telephone; support of firm-approved software packages.
• Input call information into user support ticketing database;
• Assist with audio-visual conferencing preparation for internal or attorney - client meetings.

PROJECT PARTICIPATION:
• Assist in the design and implementation of local and Firm-wide technology projects and upgrades;
• Participate in the design and implementation of  short- and long-term strategic plans to make certain network capacity meets existing and future requirements;
• Establish best practices and policies for installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting end user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices;
• Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the organization's executives, decision-makers, stakeholders, department heads, and end users regarding pertinent network activities;
• Coordinate operations and projects with appropriate network managers and technicians;

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Perform special projects as required;
• Monitoring adherence to firm security standards relating to network and data access;
• Continue to increase knowledge of existing and new products and technologies;
• Assist Office Administrator in coordinating technology support for office-related projects;

CANDIDATE SKILLS:
• Must have extensive knowledge of computing environments with similarities to the firm's operating system, hardware and software;
• Advanced troubleshooting and technology research skills;
• Must be able to listen, interpret requests, and verbally communicate questions and instructions (sometimes complex) both in person and over the telephone;
• Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form;
• Ability to handle multiple requests and assignments and effectively prioritize among competing demands;
• Must have a high degree of patience and service-oriented attitude;
• Requires maximum flexibility when working with others and on daily and project schedules;
• Requires impeccable background of ethical behavior due to access of confidential files;
• Attends work regularly and on time with a minimum of tardiness and absences;

TRAVEL:
• This position requires travel to other Bracewell Giuliani offices, including overnight stays, approximately 20% of the time.

Prestigious Eastern North Carolina firm seeking a highly organized and well-rounded individual to join the Applications Development team.  This valuable team member will be responsible for assisting with the development, support, and implementation of custom solutions throughout the firm.  The position requires an individual with excellent interpersonal skills, capable of working in a fast-paced legal environment.  The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with programming languages, business process management, web solutions, sql development, report writing, end-user support, and a thorough understanding of a professional services environment to help support firm initiatives.  Must be a team player and have excellent communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities:
• Assist with evaluation, testing, conversion, and implementation of new software and database related products and solutions
• Design, development, and implement custom web-based applications and Share Point solutions
• Develop and institute workflow and business process management solutions to increase efficiency and productivity throughout the firm
• Act as a business analyst to gather requirement, design, develop, and implement solutions for the firm
• Serve as the primary technical liaison for development related projects, upgrades, enhancements, and bug fixes
• Assist with the maintenance of custom integrated templates and macros requiring advanced technical skills and programming experience
• Partner with the template specialist to deploy new software, bug fixes, and templates firm-wide
• Assist with the migration of disparate databases to SQL\web-based\OTS software solutions
• Proactively maintain system health and perform maintenance tasks to ensure continual upkeep of development systems and solutions
• Administer and provide second-level user support for all development related programs, applications, and other deployed solutions
• Serve as the primary point person for all development related escalated end-user issues including troubleshooting code, sql, software, performance, connectivity, and security issues
• Communicate and collaborate with end-users to test, deploy changes, and implement new solutions
• Generate ad-hoc reports using Transact-SQL, SAP Business Objects, and other report writing tools
• Research, develop, test, and maintain disaster recovery plans, backup strategies, and technical documentation
• Maintain vendor relations, industry standards, and stay abreast of new software, solutions, releases, product enhancements, and development tools

 

Technical Requirements:
• Extensive design, development, and support experience
• Ability to efficiently troubleshoot development and application issues with end-users
• Strong report writing skill set with the ability to analyze and create reports using various report writing tools and programs
• Experience with data migrations and conversions
• Ability to troubleshoot connectivity issues, performance problems, code issues, and other common technical issues
• SQL Server 2005 development and administration experience
• Thorough understanding and experience with Transact-SQL
• Programming experience with .NET, T-SQL, and other languages
• Share Point development and administration experience
• Experience with the design and development of business process management solutions
