Desktop Engineering Manager – MA – Boston
Tuesday, June 29th, 2010Job Summary: The Desktop Engineering Manager supervises and maintains the organization's repository of software applications through best practices and the appropriate staffing and management of a technical team. The Desktop Engineering Manager is also responsible for planning and coordinating the processes required for the provision of user applications and systems necessary for business operations. This individual will apply proven communication and problem-solving skills to guide and assist the team on issues related to the integration and deployment of mission-critical information and software systems.
In addition to overseeing the daily operations of the Desktop Engineering, the Desktop Engineering Manager serves as a member of the IT management team in the allocation of resources, facilities, and personnel to multiple programs and projects. Collaboration with other IT managers in the development of the Firm's strategic, tactical and operational plans for information technology is a key element in this role. Working closely with vendors and integrators in the delivery of desktop hardware, operating systems and integrated software applications in a securely structured environment is required.
Principal Responsibilities: Evaluation and deployment of desktop computing functions including, but not limited to, the PC, it's operating system, security patches, login routines, along with deployment, integration, and updates to both mandatory and optional desktop software applications. Maintenance and troubleshooting of desktop PCs, printers, PDAs and all supported desktop software. Delegate projects and activities for the Desktop Engineering and Desktop support teams. implement new processes and software to ensure both groups are highly productive and making optimal use of technology. Assist in the fiscal year budgeting process for associated hardware and software. Mentor Desktop Engineering support team as needed. Project management.
Job Requirements: BS degree in Computer Science. 8-10 years related experience. In-depth understanding of all Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, including servers. Working knowledge of programming language(s) that can be used for the automation of tasks and software deployments. Strong management, communication, analytical and troubleshooting skills. Working knowledge of SQL or similar database technology highly desired.

We are currently seeking a Regional Technology Trainer. The position will be located in the Chicago office, but will support training in Houston and New Jersey. The position works closely with the Global Technology Training Supervisor and the Technology Managers of that region.
Responsibilities will include applying your skills to accomplish these and other critical functions:
• Identifying technology skill gaps of end users; making recommendations to Global Technology Training Supervisors and Technology Managers; developing programs to meet the training needs, and creating methods for proper instruction.
• Providing assistance and training to end users for firm-approved applications using a variety of methods. Software includes Microsoft Office, Outlook, Interwoven, Workshare, Carpe Diem, Adobe Acrobat, Proforma Court Forms, remote computing (VPN, Outlook Web Access and Terminal Server), Cisco phone software, personal digital assistants and other programs as deemed necessary.
• Evaluating and customizing training rollouts in order to meet local office specific needs for new hire training, technology rollout training or ongoing education.
• Providing end-user support by answering a support line; tracking Technology Support calls and solutions by creating Technology Support tickets
• Acting as a mentor and providing support to other Technology Trainers and Technology Support Trainers.

• Two years PC helpdesk/applications support desired
• Frequent travel required
