Director - Information Technology
We are looking for a Director to lead our growing US Information Technology team. The Director will be the line manager of all US technology staff and will work closely, on a matrix basis, with IT functional managers in the UK. The Director will report to PLC's Chief Technology Officer, based in the UK. The Director will also serve on the US Executive Committee and will represent the global IT function.
The Director will work with the US Marketing and Sales teams in delivering PLC products to subscribers and solving related technology issues.
Primary responsibilities will include:
Department Management
• Prepare the annual US IT business plan and operating budget.
• Manage the US IT budget and US IT staff.
• Recruit and grow the US IT staff to meet the demands of business expansion.
• Facilitate two-way communications between the US and UK IT teams via conference calls, written communications, and business trips.
• Advise senior management and end users as to relevant IT activities.
• Ensure that all US policies and procedures are aligned with the appropriate UK policies and procedures.
US IT Business Systems
• Business systems in use: Windows Server 2003/2008, VMWare, Exchange Server 2008, Citrix, Oracle, Sharepoint, Windows XP/7, Veritas Backup, Cisco VPN, Microsoft Office, Support Works, BlackBerries, Sophos AV.
• Oversee the US IT business systems.
• Manage US suppliers, the selection of which will be done in conjunction with the appropriate UK functional managers.
• Prepare and implement IT policies, procedures, and standards that are uniquely relevant to the US.
Website Development
• Web services delivery technologies and products in use: Fatwire, Oracle, Javascript, Linux, CSS, XML, XSL, JBoss, Apache.
• Manage the US web production team.
• Oversee the US-specific development program to ensure that projects are delivered to meet US business plans.
• Oversee US business analysis activities to ensure that projects are scoped to meet business goals.
• Grow a US-based team to undertake website development.
Software Development
• Software development tools in use: JIRA, Confluence, WinRunner, HP Quality Center, Silk Performance, IntelliJ.
• Manage the US utilization of the software development tools.
Qualifications for the position:
Technical Skills and Knowledge
• Experience in managing department budgets and forecasting future expenditures.
• Understanding of technical infrastructure and systems to be able to contribute to PLC's technology strategy.
• Experience with the business systems, web services delivery technologies, and software development tools cited above.
• Familiarity with CMS systems.
• Project management experience.
• Experience in managing website and software development.
• Experience in pre-sales activities for technology services.
• Experience in developing solutions for e-commerce.
• Experience in managing desktop support services.
Personal Capabilities
• Communications skills to ensure that information on projects and issues is delivered to the IT team, other PLC staff members, suppliers, and customers clearly and authoritatively.
• Ability to manage staff to deliver IT services by understanding team dynamics and individual motivation.
• Presentation skills to communicate information to a variety of audiences, including IT staff members, management colleagues, and subscribers.
• Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, prioritize and organize, and meet deadlines in a rapidly changing, entrepreneurial setting.
Preferred Background
• Bachelor's degree.
• Ten years of corporate IT experience with increasing responsibility.
• Experience managing an IT staff.
• Experience working as part of a corporate management team.
• Familiarity with the sales and marketing functions in a professional services environment.
