Job Title:  Legal Department Systems Manager

Job Description:
The Apple Legal Department is seeking a Systems Manager to help manage a broad-based, complex implementation of multiple IT solutions to support Apple's growing legal department, and to oversee the management and refinement of such solutions on an on-going basis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will work very closely with Apple lawyers and support staff to ensure a complete understanding of system needs and requirements. The individual will also work very closely with Apple's IS&T team, and will assist in coordinating and supervising the work of multiple vendors. The candidate must have strong verbal and written communications skills, be organized and creative, work well with others, be process- and solutions-oriented, and have an absolute commitment to excellence and integrity. The candidate should also have experience developing and implementing a strategic technology plan for a law firm and/or an in-house legal department, and be adept at communicating with various legal functions to understand their needs and manage the implementation and modification of solutions to meet those needs. Familiarity with key legal terms and concepts is essential.

The successful candidate will:

• Work with business leads to define and manage business process and technology roadmaps in support of long-term department strategies.
• Leverage industry trends, best practices, and leading-edge technology and process improvement ideas to challenge the status quo.
• Manage change. Implement new ideas effectively within the Apple culture. Influence decisions and change management through collaboration, leadership, and a customer-focused approach.
• Manage complex projects to major milestones. Develop project justification proposals, business cases and return on investment estimates; obtain executive approval and funding.
• Develop and maintain key project governance documentation to ensure the proper amount of structure is applied to enable project success.
• Gather and synthesize detailed, global business requirements and design specifications.
• Facilitate project-related testing, rollout and post-mortem work.
• Assess current processes, and develop and implement future processes. Apply analytical skills to rationalize change.
• Provide timely updates and elevate critical risks to project, management and senior executive teams.
• Measure and track results. Achieve business benefit.
• Act as liaison between the business teams and IS&T to ensure that the business requirements are complete and met by the proposed technology solutions.

- Project management: The candidate must have a proven track record of leading strategic projects combined with the ability to execute at tactical project-level activities and tasks. This includes:
- Coordination of multiple vendors
- Dealing with high risk deadlines
- Budget management
- Issue/risk identification and resolution
- Coordination with professionals who will utilize the systems once implemented, the system vendors and the corporate IT department
- a minimum of 5 years experience overseeing the design and implementation of systems developed specifically for use by law firms and/or in-house legal departments including (i) eBilling, (ii) Matter Management, (iii) Patent Management, (iv) Trademark Management, (v) Legal Hold, (vi) eDiscovery Management, (vii) E-Mail Archive, and (viii) Records Management.

- Technical Experience: The candidate should have sufficient technical experience to facilitate communications with IS&T personnel.

- Understanding of practice of law: The candidate should have a solid understanding of the practice of law, including various legal practice areas (e.g., litigation; patents; HR) and processes and practices with respect to each of them (e.g., discovery and filings; patent preparation and prosecution; trademark filing, etc).

- Experience with other functions, vendors and law firms: The candidate should have experience successfully working with other functions (e.g., Finance, IT, HR Compliance, Security), systems vendors and law firms.
