Currently, we are recruiting for an experienced Financial Systems Database Analyst in our Pittsburgh location, located in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh in Oxford Centre. 

The Financial Systems Database Analyst functions as part of the IT project team and reviews, analyzes, and evaluates business systems and user needs. Documents business requirements, defines scope and objectives, and formulates systems to parallel overall business strategies. Leads multiple projects and oversees developers to ensure that specifications are met. Demonstrates expertise in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Engages in a variety of tasks and performs the role of team leader. Provides consultation on complex projects and is considered to be the top level contributor/specialist. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Specific Responsibilities of the Position Include:

• Install, configure, maintain, support, and upgrade all components of the firm's Practice Management Systems: This includes hardware (~26 servers), DBMS, Operating Systems, and server/client applications.
• Maintain established backup and recovery procedures. Monitor performance and tune financial servers. Perform server capacity planning.
• Resolve problems with financial server hardware and software. Provide 7x24 support when needed.
• Maintain documentation and standards.
• Interface with Elite, and other vendors as needed for technical support and customizations.
• Provide and enforce guidelines related to system access and development for vendors.
• Coordinate with the vendor, financial, networking, and applications teams to accomplish goals. Continue to improve upon the strategic direction set for the firm's financial systems.
• Maintain separate development and testing environments to protect the production environment and to eliminate contention among the varied activities.
• Lead the development of specifications for custom programs and reports.
• Coordinate budget planning related to the financial systems. Estimate budgets, develop proposals, and maintain established project budget when leading a project.
• Provide technical and consultative advice to custom reporting teams and developers.
• Direct and supervise vendors, consultants, and team members when leading projects.

Skills and Requirements:
 
• Bachelor's Degree in computer science or area of specialty with a minimum of 8-10 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
• Minimum of five to eight years technical experience administering SQL database systems.
• Advanced understanding of MS Business Objects, SQL, MS Operating systems, Citrix, IIS, VMWare.
• SQL Server - complex query development, User Defined Functions and DTS (SSIS) Packages.
• Experienced in writing SQL Queries, Stored Procedures, Views and ETL process and Reference Data Management.
• Demonstrated understanding of the interrelationship of hardware, OS, and SQL DBMS.
• Advanced understanding of relational database design, both logical and physical, and SQL.
• Communicates professionally and diplomatically with all levels of users, managers, and vendors.
• Ability to qualitatively and objectively evaluate and recommend technological changes in the context of business requirements.
• Dependable team player with a strong sense of client and coworker service.
• Outstanding organizational skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead projects.
• Prior knowledge of the Elite financial system preferred.

JOB TITLE: Software Engineering Manager 
DEPARTMENT: Information Services - Application Development 
FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Director, Application Development 

JOB SUMMARY
Provides leadership, direction and oversight in developing and maintaining the firm's business applications.  Works closely with firm departments and their respective Business Relationship Managers to analyze requirements.  Manages a team of application technical experts who implement technical solutions that will be delivered on time, within budget and meet or exceed customer expectations.

Drives improvements in application availability, standards and processes.  Ensures use of good project management and control consistent with best practices.  Produces staff development plans and budgets necessary for completion of key projects.

Manages the full systems development life cycle of application systems and seeks opportunities to implement systems based on standard firm architectures that will improve business processes and support critical business strategies.  Sets priorities, allocates resources, refines and enforces process, and ensures there is clear communication with other departments and with executive management.

Assists with proactively supporting client service by actively participating in the Firm's ServiceMatters initiative.  Ensures that staff members are providing quality service to internal members/departments of the Firm as well as external clients and vendors by displaying professionalism via electronic and print correspondence, over the telephone and in-person and by encouraging an atmosphere that rewards a "can do" attitude.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*

• Oversees the design, development, enhancement, implementation, documentation, maintenance and support of business-facing application systems.
• Effectively manages a team of highly motivated application engineers, driving them to successfully deliver innovative solutions.
• Maintains knowledge of emerging technological trends and utilizes this knowledge to educate both IS and the business on opportunities to build better IS solutions that support and drive business decisions.
• Organizes activities to achieve desired levels of productivity, cost, quality, and productivity standards established for the department.
• Constantly seeks ways to improve the application systems environment, protocols, and processes.
• Ensure that technical documentation and deliverables are in accordance with IS policies and procedures.
• Prepares project documentation and presents to senior management for budgetary approval.
• Ensures that all team members have the tools and training required to perform effectively.
• Works with Business Relationship Managers, Project Managers and various functional managers to ensure project costs and schedules are properly estimated and controlled.
• Manages customer expectations and anticipates customer needs.
• Creates a team environment.
• Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate multiple application teams and to learn and apply new skills/techniques to respond to the firm's needs.

Technical skills:
This position is a hands on supervisory role requiring expertise in application implementation and support and recent experience related to the following technologies and operational responsibilities :
• Knowledge of fundamental legal information system requirements.
• Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft OS-based desktop, server, and database systems. Good knowledge of Microsoft networking concepts and common infrastructure.
• Good knowledge of server hardware, server storage and other infrastructure, client/server applications, and server utilities.
• Working knowledge of SQL Server 2000/2005/2008 and strong SQL skills.
• Hands-on experience with other development languages/environments including ASP, Javascript, VBScript XML, as well as .NET technologies such as ASP.NET, VB.NET and Visual Studio.NET
• Troubleshooting experience with PC desktop applications in an enterprise environment.
• Experience supporting a 24x7 production environment

Education
• Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field or equivalent work experience
• ITIL Foundation Certification

Experience:
• Minimum 7 years of Information Technology experience
• 3-5 years previous IT management experience
• Experience within a Legal environment a plus
