Job Title:  Web Application Engineer / System Admin

Description: Apple's Patent group is seeking a web application engineer/system administrator to handle the day-to-day operations, support and future enhancements of an enterprise-wide patent database system. This position requires a mixed background in enterprise-wide customer support, database management, system configuration, report design and web application programming (e.g. html, xml, CSS, Ajax and javascript). The candidate will assume ownership of the patent system operation, provide technical oversight, customer support and training, configure the system and design reports. The candidate will also plan, conduct and direct the analysis of business problems to be solved with automated systems. The candidate will deliver all solutions consistent with business objectives and to customer expectations. Working closely with IT and Business teams to ensure effective communication and teamwork exists will be essential for success. The candidate should be a self-starter able to learn new tools and gain familiarity with new technologies with minimal assistance.

Other responsibilities include:
• Develop project plans and managing cross-functional dependencies
• Comprehend organizational directions and structure and extensive business requirements
• Provide effective project management leadership of assigned resources and aligned partners to meet deliverables
• Provide technical guidance to the team and technical education to the business as needed
• Serve as single point of contact to attorneys, paraprofessionals, engineering, outside counsel and other users in the use of the patent management system
• Provide training in the use of the patent management system in both team settings and one-on-one
• Other duties as assigned

This position requires a BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent and:
• 4+ years of enterprise-wide customer support experience
• 3+ years of database management experience
• 3+ years of web application programming including html, xml, CSS, Ajax, javascript
• 1+ years of large law firm and/or in-house legal department experience strongly preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with those of varying technical expertise
• Experience with legal management systems such as those for trademarks, matters, documents, patents, e-billing, and e-discovery strongly preferred
• A good understanding of database concepts as well as client-server and web application architecture
• Experience integrating third party products with other internal systems such as SAP, Security, and HR systems
• Good understanding of the Mac OS and software, common email systems and basic networking concepts
   - A minimum of 8 years work experience
   - Be regarded as well-organized, process-oriented, and a team player
   - Solid project management experience.
   - Experience working with multiple scripting, programming, and database environments
